Fun day here at Estimize as we get to welcome the 25+ SunTrust equity analysts onto the platform as contributors to the data set. Specifically I want to give a shout out to Bob Peck, the senior internet analyst over there who has been a good friend going back to my days at StockTwits and a huge supporter of what we do at Estimize from the beginning.
You can now see all of the estimates published by every SunTrust analyst on the platform, right along side estimates from all of the analysts at hedge funds, asset management firms, mutual funds, those of industry experts, students, and individual investors, as well as the Estimize Mean Consensus and Estimize Select Consensus. Below is a screen shot of SunTrust Pharma analyst John Boris for Forest Labs (FRX). Click through for his model.
You might ask, why are we integrating estimates from Sell Side analysts, isn’t Estimize supposed to be a non-conflicted data set orthogonal in nature to the Sell Side only data sets owned by Thomson Reuters IBES, Factset, CapitalIQ or Bloomberg?
No, the goal of Estimize is and has always been from the beginning to put together a data set that best REPRESENTS the true distribution of expectations of the market, which as we all know include Sell Side analysts. We have always wanted them in the distribution, but it takes time to get large institutions to trust a new technology like Estimize. We’re glad that’s now happening, and along with SunTrust you will now see estimates from analysts at Susquehanna and will soon see estimates from at least 3 other large firms.
We can also do this because we have the Select Consensus algorithm which weights contributors according to a slew of different attributes such as accuracy and the recency of their estimates instead of letting people use their bias for or against a set of people based on biographical data to pick who they trust (that’s just stupid). We believe in statistics and meritocracy, not dumb heuristics and traditions.
This is just the beginning as we will eventually bring on all of the Sell Side and Independent Research firms, all 300 that Thomson Reuters IBES has, and there will be no reason to pay for their data set as you will be able to access the full depth of estimates, for free, on Estimize.
Yea, they aren’t too happy about that :)
